Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh Draws Parallels between Mandela's and the Palestinians’ Struggle

AMMAN - HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), said that a decade has passed since the world bid farewell to Nelson Mandela, the pre-eminent figure whose unyielding  spirit and unwavering commitment to freedom and struggle against apartheid has left a deeply-rooted mark all over the world.

This was part of a recorded statement by Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s to the 5th International Forum of Solidarity with Palestine, held on the 10th year remembrance of Nelson Mandela at the Mandela Royal House, which was organized by the Global Campaign to Return to Palestine.

In his statement, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said: “As we mark the 10th anniversary of the great icon of freedom, Nelson Mandela, we are commemorating his ever lasting legacy that represents the struggle for justice, equality, freedom  and liberation of oppressed peoples.”

He also called for issuing a statement honoring the courageous ‘Freedom Fighters” of Palestine who are often ‘wrongly and unjustly’ considered by some as  “terrorists”, due to their lifelong commitment to the cause of justice and liberation. He also called for the establishment of a “Hall of Honor for the Palestine Freedom Fighters” at the Mandela House.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh continued to say that ‘The idea that Mandela, the great fighter for freedom and struggle against apartheid, was one of the most important supporters of the cause of our Palestinian people went viral throughout the world.

That’s why the departure of this African inspiring leader is considered an invaluable loss, since defenders of the Palestinian cause used to find solace and inspiration in his unwavering commitment to justice, especially with the similarities between his historical struggle against the apartheid regime in his country and the ongoing atrocities committed against the people of Palestine.’

Moreover, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that the struggle for freedom is a global cause that crosses geographical boundaries and cries out for dignity and the right of self-determination, noting that while the world is inspired by Mandela, the echo of his struggle overwhelms those who fight against injustice, occupation and genocide in Palestine.

It should be noted that these activities were held as part of the events commemorating the passing of Mr. Mandela, which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from December 2-5, 2023.

The Great Nelson Mandela has passed away on December 5, 2013, at the age of 95, after a long, a determined and a victorious struggle for his country’s  freedom.
