Abu-Ghazaleh chairs La Verticale’s Council of Business Leaders

AMMAN, Jordan – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global) chaired the Council of Business Leaders, the 3rd Pillar of La Verticale Africa-Med-Europa Foundation, in his capacity as Chairman of the Council in an online webinar.

The event had wide international coverage and was attended by representatives of governments and global business in a bid to strengthen relations between Africa, the Mediterranean and Europe through the implementation of concrete proposals to improve economic and political ties.

The event builds on the previous La Verticale meeting held on December 3, 2020, with Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh calling on participants to take serious action in light of the current worldwide crisis and to commit to developing relations with Africa through concrete projects.

He said that a strong Africa is vital to cultivate the next era of success with the Mediterranean and Europe as this bloc is set to reach 3 billion people by 2040 for which real solutions are required that promote economic prosperity, stability and security in a collaborative and sustainable manner.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh went on to highlight the progress that has been made since the December 2020 meeting, including discussions with the African Association for Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) to develop a more sustainable African automotive sector in Africa; with Enel Group and RES4Africa foundation, under the RenewAfrica initiative, to develop renewable energy projects; and with his own firm TAG.Global, to develop much needed digitalization projects to address the digital skills gap.

His call to move from words to actions and to establish task forces for each project were echoed by HE Elisabeth Guigou, former minister of France and president of La Verticale,  as well as by Mr. Stefano Manservisi, Special Adviser to HE Jean Claude Juncker, former president of the European Commission and honorary president of La Verticale Africa-Med-Europa (AME) Foundation.

About La Verticale AME

La Verticale AME is a political project, which finds its origins in civil society and that is actively supported by several political leaders. Those who adhere to this project defend the same conviction: Europe and Africa, across the Mediterranean, share challenges and a common destiny. They therefore see the necessity to  jointly create a permanent, independent and forward-looking instrument, shared between South and North, in order to prepare for our common future and to propose concrete projects and actions.

The Foundation, which was formally established in April 2019 under Belgian law, was co-founded by TAG.Global and the Mediterranean World Economic Foresight Institute (IPEMED). Its funding will come from both companies and public institutions.
