Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property and Arab Commission for Satellite Broadcasting Cooperate to Protect IPRs

AMMAN - The Arab Commission for Satellite Broadcasting (ACSB) and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) /Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation between the two parties in protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).

The memorandum aims at establishing a general framework for the activation of copyright protection and fighting all forms of copyright violations particularly in terms of visual-audio Arabic content. 

The MoU was signed by ACSB President Mr. Mohamad Al-Adailah and AGIP Executive Director Mr. Mahmoud Lattouf at TAG-Org General Administration Building in the presence of Chairman of ACSB Board of Trustees HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh.

Commenting on the MoU signing, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his pride at this cooperation which will aid in enhancing the protection of IPRs and fighting piracy, which will contribute to enhancing creativity. Dr Abu-Ghazaleh  stated that IPRs are legally protected and all right holders are protected by the rule of law.

For his part, Al-Adailah noted that one of the Commission’s priorities in the upcoming stage is to protect Arab cyber media from the huge violations against IPRs saying that signing this MoU is the first step towards fulfilling this goal.
 
The MoU stipulates the foundation of a joint working group to discuss means of cooperation for protecting copyright of TV and radio broadcasts in the Arab world, protecting their trademarks, seeking to decrease copyright infringements in cooperation with the competent authorities in every country, controlling violations on the Web, illegal broadcasting and rebroadcasting on YouTube and addressing the competent authorities to remove such violations.

It also includes the provision of legal consulting by AGIP on the use of programs produced by other entities, offering consultation on the best ways to protect ad copyright future programs and TV channel ideas, the review and drafting of IP contracts and verification of  their compliance with local laws and regulations and implementing all the required judicial procedures to stop violations.
